• Developing a range of language features (such as: similes, metaphors, personification, description and imagery).

• Sparking ideas.

• Sentence structure.

• Story structure, including character development.

• Editing and correcting for improvement (not just mistakes)

Every workshop at The Story Studio is built on two foundational pillars: confidence and engagement. Rather than feeling like another classroom lesson, sessions are designed to be fun, interactive, and inspiring. Through writing games and fun activities, participants practise a wide range of writing skills. Behind every activity is a meaningful learning opportunity, helping writers strengthen their skills while discovering that writing can be exciting, rewarding, and full of possibilities.

About The Founder/Teacher:

Megan Holden has a background in education and has worked with children for over 20 years. She is a primary school teacher, a children's author, a mother of four young children, and the founder of The Story Studio. She is passionate about helping children build their confidence and discover a love for learning.

Her passion lies in helping children build confidence and discover the joy of writing. Through rich language experiences, building vocabulary, engaging writing games, and fun activities, Megan believes every child can develop and extend their skills and self-belief needed to become a confident writer.

At the heart of Megan's teaching philosophy is a simple belief: children learn best when they feel confident, engaged, and safe to make mistakes. She knows that confidence empowers children to take risks, share their ideas, persevere through challenges, and celebrate their achievements - skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

This philosophy inspired Megan's first picture book, The Dragon Who Lost His Spark, which encourages children to build confidence using practical strategies such as making mistakes, developing a positive mindset, and using affirmations. Through writing the book, Megan realised she wanted to help even more young people develop confidence, not only in themselves, but also in their ability to express their ideas through writing.

During her years in the classroom, Megan saw that writing was an area many students found overwhelming. The fear of making mistakes or not knowing what to write often prevented children from enjoying the creative process. Yet young people possess some of the most imaginative and creative minds. Megan believes that, with the right encouragement and guidance, they can learn to transform those wonderful ideas into stories they're proud to share. At the same time, she recognised that confident young writers also benefit from opportunities to extend themselves across the curriculum and beyond the classroom. This knowledge and experience inspired her to create The Story Studio, a place where writers of all abilities could develop their skills, grow in confidence, and discover the enjoyment of writing. Looking ahead, Megan also plans to offer specialised programmes for aspiring young authors, guiding them through the process of writing and publishing their own books.
