Terms & Conditions:

The Story Studio

1. Acceptance of Terms

By booking or participating in any workshop, course, programme, or event offered by The Story Studio, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.

If enrolling a child under 18 years of age, the parent or legal guardian accepts these Terms & Conditions on the child's behalf.

2. Enrolment

Places are confirmed once registration has been completed and payment has been received (unless otherwise agreed).

Participants are expected to provide accurate enrolment information and notify The Story Studio of any changes to contact details.

3. Payments

All fees must be paid by the due date unless alternative arrangements have been agreed in writing.

Failure to pay may result in the participant's place being released to another enrolment.

4. Cancellations and Refunds

If a participant is unable to attend a workshop or course, notification should be provided as soon as possible.

Where more than 24 hours' notice is provided, The Story Studio will make every reasonable effort to transfer the participant to another available session of the same workshop or course. If an alternative session is unavailable, a credit or refund may be offered at the discretion of The Story Studio.

If less than 24 hours' notice is given, or if a participant does not attend a scheduled session without prior notice, The Story Studio is not obliged to provide a refund, credit, or replacement session.

The Story Studio reserves the right to cancel, postpone, or reschedule a workshop due to unforeseen circumstances or insufficient enrolments. Where this occurs, participants will be offered an alternative date, a credit, or a full refund.

5. Participant Expectations

The Story Studio aims to provide a safe, positive, and respectful learning environment.

Participants are expected to:

  • Treat others with kindness and respect.

  • Follow reasonable instructions.

  • Contribute in a way that supports a positive learning experience for everyone.

Repeated disruptive or inappropriate behaviour may result in removal from a session without refund.

6. Learning Outcomes

The Story Studio provides engaging activities that include teaching, guidance, feedback, and learning opportunities designed to support participants in developing their writing skills and confidence.

Because learning outcomes vary from person to person, The Story Studio does not guarantee:

  • specific improvements in writing ability;

  • completion of any particular writing project;

  • publication success;

  • acceptance by publishers or literary agents;

  • or any other individual outcome.

Participant progress depends on many factors, including attendance, participation, effort, prior experience, and independent practice.

7. Online Sessions

Participants are responsible for ensuring they have:

  • a suitable internet connection;

  • a compatible device;

  • access to Zoom;

  • something appropriate to write with (paper/notebook and pen/pencil is recommended);

  • and a suitable learning environment.

The Story Studio is not responsible for interruptions caused by internet outages, technical difficulties, or failures outside its reasonable control.

8. Recording of Online Sessions

For safeguarding and professional protection purposes, all online Zoom sessions may be recorded.

By enrolling your child in online sessions, you acknowledge and consent to these recordings in accordance with our Recording Consent Policy.

Recordings may also be used to review teaching quality, provide feedback, improve workshop content, and maintain professional records. They will not be publicly shared unless separate written permission has been obtained.

9. Student Work

Participants retain ownership of the original work they create during workshops and courses.

By participating, you grant The Story Studio permission to review, discuss, and provide feedback on submitted work for educational purposes.

Where permission has been separately granted, The Story Studio may use anonymised excerpts of participant writing or photographs of written work for promotional or educational purposes. No identifying information will be used without additional consent.

10. Intellectual Property

All workshop materials, presentations, activities, templates, handouts, videos, and course resources remain the intellectual property of The Story Studio unless otherwise stated.

These materials may not be copied, reproduced, shared, recorded, distributed, or used commercially without prior written permission.

11. Photography and Media

Photographs or promotional media will only be used where appropriate consent has been obtained.

12. Limitation of Liability

The Story Studio is committed to providing high-quality workshops, courses, and learning experiences. While every reasonable effort is made to deliver services as described, participation is at the participant's own risk.

The Story Studio is not liable for any loss, damage, or expense arising from circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to technical failures, internet outages, illness, venue closures, or other unforeseen events.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes, restricts, or modifies any rights or remedies available under New Zealand consumer law, including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, where those rights cannot legally be excluded.

13. Changes to Services

The Story Studio reserves the right to modify workshop content, tutors, schedules, venues, delivery methods, or resources where reasonably necessary.

14. Privacy

Personal information collected during registration will be used only for administering workshops, communicating with participants, and meeting legal obligations.

Information will be handled in accordance with applicable New Zealand privacy legislation.
