Things to think about:
-Who are your characters? -keep it simple, don't have too many (1-2 is a good amount).
-The setting
-The situation -build the setting, characters, situation
-The problem
-The solution
-The ending.
Some criteria:
Your story must flow and make sense.
Use interesting language
Be descriptive. Make the story as interesting as possible.
Example:

Sam was dancing around the lounge wearing enormous headphones, when he spotted a mysterious letter poking out from beneath the sofa. As he reached for it, the robot vacuum cleaner suddenly gobbled it up, leaving Sam staring at it in horror. Desperate to rescue the letter, he chased the rattling machine into the bathroom, where he tripped over the toilet brush in his attempt to catch the robot. While brushing himself off, the cleaner crashed into his trophy that he had left on the floor (he had been admiring it earlier that day). Finally, Sam caught the robot and rescued the crumpled letter. Curiosity and excitement swept over him as he carefully unfolded the letter. He read the note:
'Sam, please pick up your trophy from the bathroom floor! -Mum.'
Sam rolled his eyes and sighed as he bent down to pick up the trophy. Mum was always finding creative ways to get him to pick up after himself.
Ideas for playing with others:
Write your own stories and share with each other
Verbally make up stories based on the cubes and tell each other
Take turns adding to the story, where everyone adds in a cube each. Person one uses a dice to start the story, then next person adds to it and introduces the next dice, and so on.
Tell a story together and add ideas as you think of them.
Tell a story, adding only a sentence at a time, then the turn goes to the next person to add a sentence. Make sure all cubes are included in the story.
